The Complete Notion Game Tracker: Organizing Your Video Game Collection
In this article I guide you through one dashboard system I've created to manage my backlog, start and record play sessions, organize my genres and platforms, and rate all the games I play. And this article breaks that process down to an achievable, reusable notion game tracker template you can adopt today. I went through over four hundred dollars on steam sales last year and still had a backlog. This system offers a fix to that problem: it helps you to organize genres, track play sessions, rate games, and move planned purchases into your library, all from a single dashboard.

Why I Created This Notion Game Tracker Template
Last year I spent over four hundred dollars in Steam sales and most of those games were untouched. I love playing games, but I was constantly losing track of where I was up to half way through long sessions of play or switching between games and forgetting where I'd left off. I created a notion game tracker template to solve that exact problem: one place to plan, play, track and review.
This system aids in three underlying problems: keeping up with what you're playing, automatically saving playtime and session info, and structuring a library so that it's easy to organize and find. Over time you'll also have actual data on what genres and series you love the most.

Your Game Collection at a Glance
The primary dashboard design maintains a straightforward layout for user navigation. The top section displays the genre overview which presents card-based data about game counts in each genre and player time investment and game completion statistics. The interface includes a separate area called "currently playing" which shows your current games right in front of you. The left side contains a quick access panel which enables users to add genres, series, platforms, sessions and new games through one-click operations.

Genre Overview: What You Can Learn about Your Gaming Tastes
Each genre card aggregates your games and shows useful metrics at a glance. This immediately answers questions like: which genre am I spending the most time on? Which genres have the highest completion rates? The notion game tracker template uses these metrics to help you prioritize what to play next based on time invested and progress.
Currently Playing & Quick Access Panel
You will maintain your orientation at this point between sessions which proves beneficial for extended gameplay sessions of Monster Hunter and large RPG adventures. You should maintain a brief list of active games because it will stop save file confusion and help you finish your current games.

How to Set Up Your Game Library: Genres, Series & Platforms
Start by creating the foundational elements. The quick access panel contains an add button which allows users to create new genres. Enter a title for your genre and then save it to see all games with that tag appear automatically in your dashboard's genre view. The workflow continues to follow the same process for series like Final Fantasy and platforms such as Steam and PlayStation and Switch.

Once you’ve created these, use filters to view only the games you want. Click into a genre, series, or platform and you’ll see precise cards for each game along with a handy "start playing" button that triggers session tracking. This is the backbone of the notion game tracker template.

Play Session Tracking: Start, Stop, and Log
Accurate playtime tracking makes this template useful beyond simple lists. To start a session, scroll to the gaming session area and hit "new page." Choose the game and the tracker auto-logs your start time. When you finish, hit "end session" and the system records total play duration, then appends it to the game's play history.

The method provides two main benefits because it tracks your playtime data and records your current game position which proves essential for games that require strategic planning and role-playing development. As you continue playing the game your play history will transform into a timeline that shows your complete gaming activity from start to finish.

Adding a New Game: Metadata, Covers, and Classification
Adding a game is straightforward and flexible. The quick access panel provides users with an option to add new games. You need to provide information about the title and purchase price and developer and release year and system requirements. The template allows users to decide which fields to complete because minimalists can choose to omit most metadata while keeping the main template functions active.

Add a cover that will make your library look and be fun to navigate. In the classify section tag Classify each game by platform, genre and series. As you begin playing you can mark storyline progress and leave it set to playing or complete. Such minor details make the concept of game tracker template look and feel pleasant to look at or use whenever you need.

Notes: Track Side Quests, Boss Mechanics, and Strategies
The in-game note system stands out as my preferred feature among all others. Users who want to follow side quests and plot points and boss mechanics and strategies should create notes directly on their game page. Select "add note" to document all events and item positions and strategic information. Users of extended games find this feature to be a lifesaver because it helps them remember what happened when they come back after a week.

Notes also double as a log for achievements and milestones. If you run multiple save files or characters, notes can help distinguish paths and decisions you made, which is handy for replayability-focused players.
Rating Board: How I Review & Analyse Games
Once you are through with a game, you go to the rating board to score it. Gameplay, story, graphics, soundtrack, and the overall rating take place in each game. When a category does not seem to fit, such as story in a sandbox game, you can go with NA and it will not be counted in final calculations.
After ratings are typed in, the template automatically calculates a performance bar and labels a performance overview. In the long run this allows you to study what type of games tend to score the most points with you- useful in future buying and in avoiding the games that keep failing you.

Wishlist & Purchase Workflow
The wishlist page serves as a tool which allows users to organize their upcoming purchases and monitor their progress. Users need to open the "new wish list" section to begin entering their game details. Users need to choose "waiting for release" as their status for upcoming games because these titles will show up in a different waiting list. The system will relocate your game to your library for tracking once you mark it as "released" and "owned" after purchasing it.
The straightforward production process enables users to create budgets and make purchase decisions which prevents them from buying numerous items that never get used. The wish list belongs to your entire library system which prevents any loss of items during the organization process.

Game Directory: A Visual Library You’ll Love
The game directory page provides a visual overview of all your holdings as you expand the collection. This is the ideal page to visit when you like organization or you just want to find it easy navigating through covers and statuses. Sort by platform, series or genre with filters, and clicking into any game will reveal notes, sessions, ratings and metadata.
All the elements such as genres, sessions, notes, and ratings interlock each other and update of a particular item ensure that the entire system remains coherent. It is that interconnectedness which makes a list a living useful database.

Tips to Get the Most Out of the Template
Start by adding the games you want to play while moving the other games to different locations.
Set the number of active games at two to three by using the "currently playing" slot for optimal concentration.
Write down a brief summary after each session to document your activities and establish plans for future work.
You will develop an understanding of your preferences through consistent rating which creates data over time.
Connect your wishlist purchases to budget tracking when you want to use a finance tracker.
